Programming Language Popularity Measured by Social Media

Red Monk has a superb chart measuring Programming Language Populairity. This post is definitely worth seeing. Stephen O’Grady is following the changes in programming language popularity by watching It compares and contrasts the rankings of programming languages on GitHub[measure by no of Git projects] and Stack Overflow [measured by the number of queries on the language at Stack Overflow]. The graph is fascinating – the usual suspects congregate at the top –  C, C++, PHP, Java, JavaScript, Python, C#, Shell, Objective C and Ruby. Then there is a second tier distinctly below with ASP, Assembly, ActionScript, Haskell, Scala … and then things start to puff out.

Go to the site and see for yourself. There is some interesting  additional social media  data included … and words on the fate of Java.
