Gecko Usage up over 22%

Gecko usage up over 22% on my website which is decidedly pro-Gecko, Opera and anything-else-but-IE. This is from the list of top 20 user agents on theOpensourcery.com. So if I tabbed all user agents (3451 in May) the 22% using Gecko total would probably increase notably.

Now here come all the disclaimers:
> The sample size is modest in scale: 53,025 users using 3451 User Agents (browser and what not) for the month of May 2005;
> The audience that comes to theOpenSourcery.com is most likely to be at least sympathetic towards OpenSource software;
> The audience that comes to theOpenSourcery.com is most likely to be tech savvy and therefore fully aware of the benefits of switching browsers;
> The audience that comes to theOpenSourcery.com is most likely to be tech savvy and therefore not intimidated by the “technical challenge” of switching or running dual browsers.

Thus this conclusion, despite the above disclaimers, appears to be reasonable:
It appears for continuing technical excellence, speed and performance plus security reasons, NOT-IE browsers continue to garner a larger browser market share every month.

IE diehards will say “Just wait until IE7 gets introduced”. And of course that is the whole problem with IE. Look how long, 5 years and counting, between updates of IE. Users are at the behest and whim of Redmond as to when and especially what they will get in IE updates. We shall be tracking this latter issue in the next few weeks.
