The second in the Captain Jack Aubrey and Spymaster Stephen Maturin historical novels that have garnered high praise from the likes of playwright David Mamet and biologist E.O. Wilson. And why not? The 20 story series is set in the Napoleonic War era and the rise of the Industrial Revolution. They are filled with daring naval manoeuvres, political intrigues that ebb and flow like the great oceans and fascinating human characters the novels navigate so well.
